#205 FROM REALITY SHOW TO PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

Today the new Irish Press Photographer of the Year, sports photographer James Crombie talks about 2020. From a pandemic stay at home order when all sports stopped to where he finds himself today, recipient of an award that hasn't gone to a sports photographer for three decades! A year of photographing and thinking ‘outside the box,’ where James has had to reinvent the way he thinks about making sport and news pictures. And the story of a Starling murmuration that went viral in the 'Twittersphere'.

If you listen regularly to the show, doubtless there will be some names and characters you’ve started to recognise. Hegaard the Dane is one of those and he’s been busy on the MPB.com site, our sponsor.

He wrote; “I traded in twelve camera gear items. One lens, my favourite 43mm, was marked down from excellent condition to good. However four items were marked up from good to excellent. I am happy and your reputation is spotless! And that Hegaard, is proof I think of how fair MPB are with how they do business. If you want to buy, sell or trade quality used camera gear online, be sure to visit MPB.com in the States, Europe or the UK.

We’re also supported by Studio Ninja, an end-to-end client management software designed for professional photographers, it takes less than 30 minutes to set up and then you’ve got everything in one place, diaries, workflow, address book, invoicing, even e-signed contracts and you get 50% off your first year of use, by entering the code PHOTODAILY50 when you go to the Ninja website.

And our thanks to Patron of the Day, Dionissi Lychnos who has been printing on unique surfaces including the inside of duck eggs. He says; “It struck me recently that for the last three years I’ve been so focused on getting my prints in eggs and on aluminium right, that I have neglected the actual image making part of photography.” So he’s launched a new Insta, just so he can ‘play.’ If you’d like to become a Patron and support the show, read more here.
