#317 ASSIGNMENT: KEVIN MULLINS #1

Kevin Mullins, Fujifilm X-Photographer and my co-host on The FujiCast sets this week's assignment and it's one that will have you photographing literally from the moment you wake up. We'll both be fascinated to see what you come up with in relation to today's challenge. Email through SHOW PAGE. Supported by our Patrons and MPB.com.

I’d love you to share the pictures you make for this challenge, 2000 pixels wide, or best quality out of a smartphone. This week, the challenge involves making more pictures than usual, so please send via a WeTransfer, Dropbox account or similar to studio@photographydaily.show. Alternatively, send a handful of examples, say two or three that show your way of thinking as you were covering the day and evening. Don’t forget also to send a link to your website or Instagram.

My thanks to our wonderful Patrons and MPB.com who sponsor this show; the number one company in the UK, the US and Europe when it comes to buying, selling, and trading used camera kit online – it’s a safe place to do business, with guarantees upon what you buy.

It isn't rare for me to feel bored with my surroundings, my job, or my day-to-day life. When that happens, perhaps I should set myself an assignment like this one. Load my X100V with "some Ilford HP5 film" (simulation, of course, courtesy of Fuji X Weekly), set up an hourly alarm -- and make a picture every time it rings! It might make for interesting situations, like taking a picture while removing Freddie's (my son) shoes in the elevator, or while he's playing. It might lead to making a portrait of a visiting colleague, after an interesting discussion about satellite payloads measuring X-rays in space; or working with a replica (a FlatSat) of the satellite we are building at our University. It might lead to asking the man cutting my hair for a portrait, which may lead to him telling me interesting things about himself, like (in this case) the fact that his name appears on the logo of his salon. It may make me realize how lucky I am to be healthy, to be able to spend so much time with my family and balance it (sometimes with difficulty, yes) with an interesting job.

Phone shots for assignment #317, one photo every hour for a day, based on what's in front of you every hour. I can't imagine anyone being particularly excited by any of the images here. It was a rather dull work from home day. About the most exciting thing I did was have a cup of tea and fed the cat.

I did warn my colleagues the camera was coming into work for an assignment. It seems random when I look at them but maybe I need to do it again because it doesn’t appear I ate anything all day! Thanks for the great challenge.

Some morning shots from my bed as I lie here with a broken leg. Cat sitting on my arm followed by the daily injections, in a shaft of light coming through the blinds.
