It's assignment day where our special guest, street photographer and international mentor Valerie Jardin sets a photography challenge or a way to think about your picture-making for the next week. It’s a challenge for everybody, whatever interests you have and today, we're asking you to think about humour.

I like the idea of assignments and here is my first submission for #305, the assignment about street humour.
About the submitted photo: I took this picture in downtown, Berlin. It was one of the first sunny days after the winter. It was a weekend and people enjoyed the nice day walking around the street and trying to relax a bit. I found this moment intriguing and amusing; a disrobed man exchanging glances with a proud-looking woman wearing a shirt with large printed letters spelling ELEGANCE. I am left wondering who truly is more elegant and relaxed? :-)

I've attached an image for consideration for the latest assignment set by Valerie, I'm calling "Surprised." The image was captured on a walk around Nottingham city centre. I saw this elderly lady walking toward me, and had to get a shot of her, as I was drawn to the interesting looking sunglasses she was wearing. As I raised my camera to get an image, she put her hand up to her mouth. Not sure if it was out of surprise of seeing me bring the camera up, or simply that she was going to burp! Either way, it injects a little humour to the frame.

I love this assignment although It's definitely not the easiest. I never go out thinking to myself, "find the funny scenes". If I do, then I get stuck and can't produce anything. In my case, they just seem to happen, and I have to be ready for the taking.
Anyways, not knowing how many I could share, and having difficulty deciding, I'll share four (above and below).
The one with the ear pulling was all about watching the scene unfold. The kid was climbing on a statue at the foot of the Trocadero in Paris, and his mother was yelling at him. When he finally came down she grabbed his ear and pulled him away. I was actually going for a picture of the kid on the statue but never managed to find an angle. The one with the pack of dogs was luck. I noticed the pack of dogs so I got down to their level, and I snapped one the one dog made that funny head gesture as if staring at the black dog’s bottom. The Vivian Maier is one of my favorite moments I've captured. I had just visited the exhibit and I noticed the two ladies seated under the sign. That would have already made a nice picture, but as I was about to press the shutter, one of the ladies lifted her phone and showed it to her friend. and voila. The last taken in the latin quarter was all about the background. I was at first upset because the man on the phone was pacing in front and was waiting for him to leave so I could get someone else to walk in front. He never left and so I decided to make him my subject. I'm glad I did.

So pleased I found my shot for this week’s assignment. I’m not a street photographer by any means, but today was a special day in Weston-super-Mare as the Marine Lake was re-opened after a big clean up of Severn Estuary silt. This makes the lake swimmable, and indeed many people were doing just that, including this dog. It made me smile as I’d never seen this sight here before. I called to ask if I could take a picture to which the man shouted back, ‘Yes’. It was great to see people out enjoying themselves and taking advantage of the newly renovated Marine Lake.

I took this with my little Olympus 35 RC while I using up my film in my camera, I wandered around Dorchester-Land snapping away at anything I saw. This was because I was enrolled on a ‘develop your own film’ at the rather wonderful Analogue Spotlight event held in Worcester last month. Thankfully my developing skills worked and think this fits Valerie’s second assignment.
