#72 FRIDAY PHOTOWALK: SIMPLE PLEASURES

It’s the edition where I take the emails and messages you've sent in about particular episodes plus your thoughts on what's affecting you as a photographer right now on a walk in the countryside. Just you, me, the mailbag and our cameras. An opportunity to make some pictures as we walk and talk. And you can see a selection of my ‘snaps’ from the walk below.

Today there's a slight difference. I'm inviting you on a surprise family day, which still features the walk, but lets you in to a little of our life behind the scenes. We're on the Kennet and Avon Canal in leafy Berkshire for a day’s barging, or is it cruising?

It’s been an odd summer for us all, and this year for the first in our boys’ lives, we’ve not travelled to sunnier climes, we’ve not taken a two week holiday (first world problem granted,) so we’ve taken shorter drives for days out, and one week out with the boys grandparents. So as the ‘summer holidays’ edge to a close and they return to their formal classrooms following lockdown and over five months away from school, we wanted to organise a surprise, something they have loved doing with a family we’re close to every year, a day where everything slows up (or is it down) on a canal barge. You can’t go far, you can’t go fast, but you can laze, run your hands in the river as it slowly washes through your fingers and take turns in being the captain.

So as we headed out under the guise of going to a garden centre, my wife asked me if I was ‘cashed up’ for buying some greenery, the idea being we’d have to return home, turning around in a yard that they should recognise…
