#5 SEAN TUCKER YOUTUBER

When I decided to make a series of podcasts about photography and by extension film making, I wanted there to be an open door policy. Where a conflict photographer may appear in one episode, to be followed by a wedding story teller, news gatherer, landscape shooter, YouTuber in the next.

And that’s the wonderful thing about this medium, that there are no rules. It’s a democratised environment, in the free world at least you’re able to make pretty much what you want in whatever style you choose and it seems to me the only ones who shout saturation point, are usually those who don’t like the idea they’ll have to work just that little bit harder to find their voice in the sea of noise that’s a frustrating swell to some, and thunderous exciting surf to others.

My photographer guest hasn’t followed the conventional rules suggested by the thousands of films on how to build a YouTube following.

He doesn’t really do kit reviews, and shies from controversy, and actually only promises to produce one film a month, whilst current thinking suggests you should be producing as much as you can, as quickly as you can, as often as you can.

He’s a thinker, he’s a photographer and as he approaches the four hundred thousand mark (at the time of posting) in terms of subscribers, I thought it was a good time to try and find out how a photographer of his calibre and mindset courts and makes films for the most successful video outlet on this planet. Sean Tucker agreed to talk and share his story from his front room, or in YouTube language, his studio set.
